Our Exterior Plastering Process

Getting Your Surface Ready
Every good plaster job starts with getting the surface ready. We check the walls to see what we’re working with—whether they’re concrete blocks, bricks, or fibre cement sheets. We look for any issues like cracks, moisture damage, old paint that’s peeling, or crumbling plaster. After checking everything, we clean and prep the surface. This can mean water-blasting, scraping off loose bits, or grinding down any uneven areas. If needed, we put on a bonding agent so the new plaster sticks well.
Fixing Base Coating and Repairs
Before putting on the main plaster, we sort out any underlying problems. We fill in cracks, reinforce loose corners, and fix any damage to create a solid base. For complete replasters, we might strip off the old coating to get down to the bare surface. At this stage, we install corner beads, mesh tapes, or control joints, especially in spots that might move or crack. If needed, we also put on a base render coat to make a smooth and stable surface.
Applying the Plaster
Now, the real change happens. Based on what finish you want and the type of wall, we apply a multi-layer plaster system. For newer buildings, we usually use cement-based, acrylic, or polymer-modified plasters that are flexible and water-resistant. We start with the first coat, called the base render, which we spread out evenly with our hawks and trowels. After it cures, we add a second coat to build thickness and keep things flat. Sometimes, we embed mesh between layers for extra strength and to help prevent cracks, especially in larger or high-stress areas.
Texturing and Detailing
After we finish the main structure, it’s time to get creative with the final touches. Whether you want a smooth look, a light sand texture, or something bolder, we have the tools and know-how to make it happen. We can float, sponge, brush, or spray the last layer based on what you like. We pay attention to edges and details because a great plaster finish is all about those little things.
Curing and Weatherproofing Prep
Once the plaster is on, it needs some time to cure. We keep a close eye on this process to protect it from rain, frost, and too much sun. After it’s cured, we’ll sand down any bumps and clean the walls. If you're planning to paint, we’ll seal it with a primer, or we can add a weatherproof coating to keep it tough against New Zealand's changing weather.
Final Check and Clean-Up
When we’re all done, we take a thorough look at everything to make sure it looks great and is consistent. We’ll fix any small issues right away. Then, our team cleans up the area, clears out the debris, and leaves your home looking neat. We won’t leave until everything meets our standards—and yours.

Why Is Exterior Plastering So Important?

Auckland’s climate can be tough on buildings. Homes here face a constant mix of high humidity, heavy rainfall, salty coastal air, and significant temperature shifts — all of which can take a toll on your property’s exterior over time. Without proper protection, these conditions often lead to common problems such as hairline cracks, deeper structural cracks, water ingress, mould growth, and gradual material decay. Over time, these issues can compromise both the look and structural soundness of your home.

That’s where professional exterior plastering in Auckland becomes so important. High-quality plastering acts as both a shield and a finish, protecting your home from the elements while giving it a clean, attractive look. Here’s why it matters:
