How to remove stain & Grout from Bathroom Tiles?

Grout is important to keep the tiles in place. It prevents the water from reaching places where it shouldn’t be. But let’s admit it, cleaning grout is a pain. Grout is porous, which is why it gets stained easily and traps dirt and grime. It takes a lot of time and effort to get the accumulated dirt out and make the tiles mold and mildew free, especially in bathrooms. While cleaning tiles is not so much a difficult task, cleaning grout can really test your patience.

You should always try keeping the grout clean, dirt and mildew free in the first place. The most important thing to remember is that you should first try mild cleaning products on the grout. This will preserve the life of the grout as harsh cleaning products can damage the grout. No doubt, this would mean some extra cleaning time but it’s worth trying.

Now, let’s look at some of the ways you can remove stain and grout from bathroom tiles.

Warm water and stiff bristled brush

This is something you should try before moving on to other cleaning techniques. Simply spray warm water on the grout and rub with a stiff bristled brush in circular motion. Let it dry. This method is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way of cleaning grout.

Steam cleaning

This is another method of cleaning that is environmentally friendly and effective at the same time. Use a steam cleaner to attack the accumulated dirt and mildew on the grout. Attach a pointed nozzle on the steam cleaner and move it along the grout lines applying continuous steam.

This will loosen all the dust particles from the grout and make it easier for you to clean with other cleaning products, in case steam cleaning proves to be ineffective.

Baking soda and vinegar

Mix baking soda in water and apply the paste on the grout with a clean brush. Rub it in circular motion. When are you done scrubbing, spray the grout with a mixture of water and vinegar. Let it bubble for some time.

Scrub the area again with a toothbrush and then clean the surface with clean water.

Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide

In case the earlier method didn’t do the trick for you, wait for some days to try this method. This is because vinegar and hydrogen peroxide should not be mixed together.

Mix baking soda and hydrogen peroxide together and scrub it on the grout with a toothbrush. Rinse with warm water. This method is also effective in tiles stain removal.

Apply oxygen bleach

Mix this with water and apply it on the grout. Let it dry for some time. Then scrub and rinse the surface.

Commercial grout cleaner

This should be your last resort. If all the other methods fail, buy a commercial bathroom tiles stain remover and grout cleaner.
